African Union Civic Tech Fund in context
This programme history records the original civic technology support initiative. Its purpose was to connect civil society participation with democratic governance and policy processes. For AUCTF, the wider policy context included Agenda 2063, the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance and the African Youth Charter. AGA and SADC calls addressed participation in the governance institutions relevant to their specific programme.
Different rounds, different conditions
The first AUCTF guidelines dated 25 November 2021 set financial support of EUR 10,000–20,000 per recipient for a six-month implementation period. Those are historical conditions, not the amount of a new call. AUCTF 2.0 was launched in 2024 and documented a different support package and cohort. Use the original documents to compare the periods; contact the team for the current opportunity.
Support beyond the budget
The archived programmes also included technical and thematic support, access to experienced practitioners, visibility and peer learning. A strong project therefore needs an account of its implementation capacity and the support it needs, rather than only a financial request.

What is this call about?
The African Union Civic Tech Fund is a pan-African competition that aims to accelerate innovative civic tech initiatives that have the potential to lead to citizen-led transformative action across the African continent. This rests on the recognition that there is an acute need for meaningful participation by African citizens in addressing and solving governance and development challenges across the continent.
The overarching policy framework for the African Union Civic Tech Fund is Africa’s Agenda 2063 as well as other key policy documents associated with the African Union Shared Values agenda, such as the ACDEG or the African Youth Charter. Initiatives should therefore provide innovative solutions to solve problems of citizen participation, across a number of relevant areas:
