Read a project booklet without turning activities into impact
The Charter Project Africa booklet dated May 2024 is a 39-page publication. Read its project description, civic-tech projects, dialogues, research and advocacy as different kinds of evidence, then build a traceable contribution map.
The diagram in words: Citizen issue and evidence → Institutional route and acknowledgement → Response checked separately.
Use the publication’s own structure
The booklet presents a project brief, civic-tech projects, activities, research, advocacy, public dialogues and its website. An activity description establishes what the publication reports, not necessarily what changed for citizens. Keep the booklet’s May 2024 date separate from the dates of events or projects described within it.
Connect the Charter to a concrete question
The ACDEG anniversary outcome document concerns deliberations convened on 13 April 2022. It supplies discussion points about the governance agenda, not a measurement of every country’s implementation. Use a bounded question such as how a citizen concern reaches an institution and receives a response.
A complete fictional contribution map
A civic group gathers an issue through an accessible channel, verifies and aggregates the evidence, sends a brief to the relevant institution, records an acknowledgement and later checks the response. Each arrow needs an owner and evidence. A website launch belongs to the output column; a demonstrable change in how the issue is resolved belongs to a different outcome column.
Keep a claim ledger
For each public claim record the exact statement, source and page, period, evidence type, limitations and permission for any personal material. If a booklet names a project, do not invent its users, results or continuing funding. If a dialogue is described, do not assume every recommendation was adopted.
A useful review decision
The fictional group has a published brief and an acknowledgement but no response yet. Its next step is to check the stated response route and date. It can accurately report the brief and acknowledgement, while describing policy change as unverified. The exercise is new editorial work and does not report an actual grantee’s achievements.
